Moving Home
Moving home is a major event in anyone's life and with a few helpful planning and preparation tips and a bit of work beforehand, your move can be smoother than you thought.Rod Martiska has provided a helpful check list to help you organise your move and keep track of the many tasks you'll need to undertake in order to have a successful move. Use it as a guide and make your own additions as you think of things.
Essentials
There are the obvious things that you will need to do well before the move:
*Book the removalist whose service suits you best or a rental truck at the most favourable time. remember that these book up quickly if you are thinking of moving on a Saturday, so leave plenty of time.
*Make an inventory of your possessions to ensure nothing is misplaced during the move.
*Use a colour code or numbers to designate the area where the furniture or box will go in your new home.
*Using the check list supplied below as a guide, begin keeping a note of facilities and companies that you need to advise of your move from your mail. Add these to your list of family and friends.
*Prior to your move, notify all those on your list. Some may need a week or two notice so don't leave it till the last minute. You may wish to organise for your mail to be redirected by the Post Office for a month just to be on the safe side. this can be done for a small fee.
*Investigate and obtain "insurance" to cover your belongings whilst being transferred to your new home.
Moving the children
If children are a part of your move, you should take special care to prepare them for it. Involve them at the earliest discussion and planning sessions. Here's a guide of the most important topics you might cover when discussing the move with your children:
*Why the move is taking place
*Make sure they are given firm details about their new home and its locality, particularly in relation to proximity to current friends and family.
*Discuss the school situation and allow them to voice any concerns that they may have.
*Once they are settled with the idea, involve them in the moving by providing them jobs like sorting and organising their belongings.
*A few years spent in a home can be a lifetime to a child so take some photographs for their scrapbook and invite friends for a farewell.

The following checklist can be used as a guide to assist you in your move. Add to it as you note any additional contacts you may need to advise of your move.
